Revisiting The Law Of Attraction

I’ve recently decided to shutter an old blog of mine that was my first attempt at creating a brand and an identity online and the reason I did this is because the focus of that blog is not aligned with my true intentions with what I’ve been pursuing the last 12 months.

In fact, I hadn’t posted anything there in over a year.

That first blog was focused on money, money, money and not truthfully aimed at helping other people.  Sure, I provided lots of content but it was related to the interent marketing niche exclusively and all the while, I’ve been building a network marketing business.

I found it too hard to juggle multiple projects and activities and thanks to my good friend Scott Brandon Hoffman, about a year ago I became focused on what I truly wanted to do.

Because of that change in my approach, I’ve had more personal success and joy in the last year then the previous three years when my focus was on money.

Which brings me to the point of this post.  On the old blog, I wrote a post on the Law of Attraction which you could say was a small glimpse of my true interest and intention at the time, I just didn’t know it.  ;-)

As I cannot link to the old post anymore, thankfully I still have the content (and frankly, I don’t care about Google’s duplicate content hoopla).

So I’ll summarize the main point here and include an excerpt from the original article.

Law of attraction or law of hard work?

The law of attraction is a fascinating concept but I’m noticing there are quite a few marketers using this idea soley as a means to generate a boatload of cash. They seem to be hiding behind the spirit of the law rather than being in front of it.

I’m noticing it more and more in social media sites where people I connect with will immediately pitch me on their business and so I review their profiles and see lots of content that speaks to the law of attraction and I wonder – are they missing the point entirely?

There is nothing wrong at all to want to make money and in fact, if you use the law of attraction as it is intended and are genuine in your approach, the money will find you.  It’s that simple.

The following is quoted from my old post:

What strikes me particularly odd about using this strategy with the Law of Attraction is if you are following the premise and spirit of this law, you would NOT be focusing on trying to use it to (just) make money.

In fact, you would probably be doing the opposite which is helping people understand the law of attraction and providing value related to the law of attraction in order to attract people to you.

Which brings to the forefront the other side of the coin when it comes to the law of attraction – the Law of Reciprocity.

If your use of the Law of Attraction is from the perspective of selfishness and greed, you will manifest these characteristics either in yourself or in what you attract to you.

I found an enjoyable little article by Jeffrey Gitomer in the Eagle Tribune earlier this month about the Law of Attraction which had an interesting comment from a reader named Marlowe regarding James Allen’s classic titled ‘As A Man Thinketh’ and the misguided interpretation of the Law of Attraction.
