Business Leaders, Where Do I Find Them?

Finding Home Business Leaders

Outside of determining what the best home business is for you, finding quality leaders to drive your success is the most critical component to growth.

Leaders are your generals.  They are the ones that will help you explode and achieve the higher ranks of your compensation plan.  Finding them is not all that hard if you know the steps to take.

One key piece of advice when you start:  Do not pitch them on your business right out the gate.  Nothing turns people off than being sold to.  We all get the Twitter DMs (manual or auto) that push someone’s link to a product or business.  I personally do not click on links until the person has taken the time to establish a relationship with me.

This is so important that I want to make sure you understand this before you get started with this process.

So let’s begin.

1) Develop your own brand, You, Inc. People love learning about others like them and everyone has their own unique qualities that attract people to them.  Using social media, this is really easy to do and it’s free.

2) Find people in your niche to connect with and follow. The goal isn’t to try to recruit them into your business as this rarely works – everyone loves their own business and in fact, they will probably try to recruit you but this is ok because you are going to benefit from the relationship you develop with them by doing this….

3) …Providing valuable tools that will grow their business by increasing sales and conversions, tools they probably do not have now.  I am a big believer in having a set of tools and services that augment any home based business and sharing these with people I connect with actually generates me revenue, even if they do not join my core business.

Did you catch that part?  Yes, I make money from people who do not join my core business.  Note:  If you want to learn more about what tools I use to help other marketers increase their revenue and my strategies, opt in to my newsletter.

4) Find new followers. Everyone online with social media profiles like Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, Twitter and dozens more have groups of followers at each of these sites.  Only a small percentage of these followers actually join the business of the person they are following.

Many are looking for something, they just haven’t figured out what that is.  By interacting with the people you network with in your niche (through wall comments, sharing content, tweets, etc…), the people who follow them will see your messages.

The odds are that a certain percentage of them will want to follow and learn about you and if what you share has enough value, you will attract more people.

5) Strike up a dialogue with these new people and informally interview them. Find out what their driving purpose is, what their goals are and anything else you may think is important to them.

Think about this for a moment:  most people do not find a dentist or hair salon or any service for that matter by calling the very first company they find.  No, they call a few, ask questions and determine the best rates and services.

By the answers they give us, we make our choice on who to do business with.  The same thing applies when looking for leaders so don’t be shy about communicating with people and asking them questions.

Note:  asking questions is only part of the equation because many people are good at talking but they do not walk the walk.

I like to follow up discussions with micro action steps, something simple like sharing a valuable report with them that I think they will like and then agreeing to follow up to get some feedback and thoughts on what they read.

I do not send them something specific to my business.  Think of it like fishing – you set the bait, you cast the line and you wait for the bite.  People who respond and follow through are more likely to be leaders than those who do not so again, follow the path of least resistance.  The process takes time – building wealth does not happen overnight, no matter what (insert hyped up guru program name here) tells you.

That’s it for now.  Next post will go into the nuts and bolts of some things you can do to increase your chances of finding the right people to work with.
